It’s that time of year. Let the political bus tours begin! Geesh. Anyone else tired of these things? They strike me as disingenuous and a cynical way to generate the impression of connecting with everyday people. Blech. They are a tired political cliché (perhaps I’m the cynic).
So Palin’s having fun with the media. They just can’t understand how she can treat them this way, I mean, how can they cover her if they don’t know where she is when she doesn’t even give them a schedule. Harrumph. The media needs therapy. They despise her yet can’t seem to get enough of her. I get the fact that Palin doesn’t like the media and I confess to enjoying her repeatedly tweaking their self-inflated opinion of their importance to the political process. The way she has been treated by them as compared to female politicians from the “other” party is despicable and if any of the media knuckleheads had any integrity they would at least confess their bias and fess up to the disparate treatment.
But enough already of Palin bashing the “lamestream media”. Her schtick is getting old. Is she running or just toying with everyone? If she is running, I don’t think the country needs a smirker in chief, “joshin’ around” and “having’ fun” at the media’s expense. We need a leader.
Yet again, it’s become fashionable for Republicans to prattle on about Reagan and to tell us how much they admire him, yada, yada, yada. But here is the difference between the current GOP headliners and Reagan – he had actual ideas and fully flushed out beliefs. He truly BELIEVED what he said. He wasn’t echoing someone else. He spent time ruminating and formulating his core beliefs. If you haven’t read “Reagan, In His Own Hand: The Writings of Ronald Reagan That Reveal His Revolutionary Vision for America” I encourage you to take the time to do so.
Does anyone know what Palin or any of the other headliners believe other than parroting Reagan? If you do know what Palin believes, please tell me how you got past the wholesome folksy way of speakin’ she uses because my tolerance for it is gone. Was kinda neat durin’ the convention and all, but geesh, I’m kinda tired of listenin’ to her ramblin’ on and always inserting a barb or jab to someone who has done her wrong. Enough already.
Yes, we are a great country. But this great country has gotten itself into this mess and now we need to get ourselves out. It doesn’t matter who got us into the mess. We’re in it up to our eyeballs and need to get out. To get ourselves out we need a leader. We need someone who can lead and not irritate the majority of voters. Let’s be pragmatic. Even if she has good ideas, she is too polarizing of a figure to unite the country. The Palin haters will never concede their ground. Yanking the media’s chain ad-infinitum will only make them dig their heels in deeper.
What we need is a leader with a foundation of solid, well formed ideas. A leader who can put aside what happened in the past, and if they are going to get their revenge on those who have done them wrong, a leader who know’s how to do it with class and self depreciation ala Reagan.
